Overview
Japan has introduced the Child and Child-Rearing Support Fund System, effective September 2026. Contributions are collected through the existing health insurance system to fund government childcare and child-rearing initiatives. This update has been confirmed by Japan Local Partners.
Who is affected
Employees enrolled in an applicable employee health insurance scheme in Japan.

Effective date and payroll timing
This change is effective September 2026 and is calculated using Standard Monthly Remuneration, the same basis used for existing social insurance contributions.
