A major labor reform in Colombia is continuing this year with another reduction to the country’s maximum legal working hours.
Effective July 16, 2026, the maximum legal workweek in Colombia will decrease from 44 hours to 42 hours. This is part of a gradual reform designed to improve work-life balance while maintaining employee salaries and benefits.
What this means for employees
Your salary and benefits will remain unchanged.
The maximum standard working week will now be 42 hours.
Any work performed beyond 42 hours per week may qualify as overtime, depending on local labor rules and company policies.
Work performed on Sundays and public holidays will have a higher surcharge, increasing to 90% starting July 1, 2026.
There are no changes to vacation entitlements, social security contributions, or employment contracts as part of this update.
What to expect next
Your organization may review schedules or shift structures to align with the new legal limit. If any adjustments are needed to your regular working hours, your manager or HR contact will communicate them directly.
If you have any questions regarding your schedule or how this change may apply to your role, please reach out to your manager or local HR contact.
